Compare Prices on Laptops by Using Comparison Shopping Services

shopping carts In my mind, there are two ways to compare prices on laptops. One is by physically visiting the stores that sell them and the other is by using comparison shopping services. In this day and age, physically visiting the stores that sell laptops isn't a good idea. There are too many choices and too many price variations to get the best deal that way. Using the Internet and searching through comparison shopping services is a much better idea.

Finding the Comparison Shopping Services

I think I found the netbook computer I want, but I decided to do some online comparison shopping to see what stores offer the best deals. The problem I had was that I couldn't remember the names of the ones I used in the past. I can tell old age is starting to kick in.

Since I'm from the US (even though I live in the Philippines) and my wife will be there until at least June of 2009, I fired up the Google search page and searched for "US shopping comparison sites". It only took me a few minutes to spot the sites that I've used before.

One thing to remember when using comparison shopping services is that you also have to examine the shipping costs. While the laptop you're searching for might be cheaper at one store than another, the shipping cost may be higher. In essence, you may not save any money at all if you're not careful.

A List of Comparison Shopping Services

This is only a partial list of comparison shopping services. Some of them I've used before and I plan to use the rest. I really don't want to pay a penny more than I have to for a netbook computer. Here's the list, in no particular order:

Some people might say I'm leaving out eBay or Google Checkout (among others), but I really don't want to use a service that requires me to sign in as a member in order to just browse and compare prices.

The Plan

My wife was thinking of heading to the closest Fry's Electronics and just picking up my netbook computer of choice and bringing it back to the Philippines with her. Although Fry's has a huge selection of just about anything electronic, I told her I prefer to check online for better prices. I might even be able to have one shipped to her house for less than the cost of it at that store plus the fuel to make the round-trip.

If worse comes to worst and push comes to shove, Fry's Electronics will be where she gets it. I don't know at this point if I can get a better deal elsewhere, but I intend to find out.
