Right now, I can't look in the mirror without calling myself stupid. I finally got around to removing the hard drive from my dead notebook computer and discovered I made a mistake when I bought the external hard drive case.

Most laptop computers (and most desktop computers, for that matter) only have a single audio output jack. Regular computer speakers use a single plug (usually green) and then split the signal between two speakers. This works well for just about anything… except music and DVD audio.

Most netbooks are perfect for watching movies, but not with what's normally included with them. In order to watch a DVD, the netbook must either come with a DVD player (which really doesn't make it a netbook anymore), you have to connect an external DVD player or you have to convert a DVD to a format that can be put on a USB stick (thumb drive) and then played on the netbook.

In my (seemingly) never-ending search for the best netbook to serve as a backup computer, I've virtually examined more than I can count. I've narrowed down the choices to laptop models made by HP and Samsung and will probably end up with a Samsung N120-12GBK, based on a netbook review. The clincher will be the number of positive reviews I read about it. I still have some time and nothing is yet set in stone.
