A USB Wireless Headset is a Better Idea than a Bluetooth Wireless Headset

Bluetooth headset A Bluetooth wireless headset has its uses but the kind you see pictured doesn't work very well with any computer, whether it's a desktop or a laptop. How do I know? I have a USB Bluetooth dongle and the headset to go with it. I could get it to work, after a lot of hassle, but the battery runs down quickly since it has to be in "call" mode all the time.

I was wrong and I admit it.

I said I firmly believed a Bluetooth wireless headset was the way to go for audio listening portability. I was wrong and I admit it.

My wife returned to the Philippines on Monday with the headset and dongle I ordered about a month ago. I didn't get a chance to do anything with them until yesterday. After installing software, pairing and other things related to Bluetooth devices, I concluded it was a huge waste of time. While I was waiting for her return, I bought a new Logitech USB headset (wired, of course) because I needed something I knew would work with Skype without a lot of hassle.

USB Wireless Headset

I picked up a cheap USB wireless headset to test out, after I bought the Logitech headset, and everything worked except the microphone. It works great for listening, but that's all it's really good for and it's really too bulky to carry around. It's not a big deal because I think I only spent the equivalent of $5 for it. Unfortunately, it was the only kind of USB wireless headset I could find locally, so I'll have to go further out (and find a bigger computer store) to find exactly what I want.

What I really want is a USB wireless headset that looks like the ear buds or earphones made for the Sony PlayStation Portable. My son uses one or the other and it works really well, except that it's wired. Knowing what I want and knowing I probably can't find exactly what I want, I shouldn't be too disappointed when I start searching.

  1. I didn't even know that they had usb wireless headsets. I have only seen and been annoyed with random want-to-be business people walking around on their headsets and look like they are talking to themselves. I think the usb technology is going to be a more product and longer lasting technology than bluetooth was ever intented to be. USB 3.0 should be out soon 'ish' and that'll make this whole concept even better.
